40 Goals for 2017: Week 24

I’m keeping myself accountable this year by tracking my progress on my 40 Goals for 2017 every week.

Week Twenty- Four

Financial:

  1. Max Roth IRAs for the mister and I: $11000. Holding steady at $4500 for the Mister and I have $1000, but that won’t likely change until my work hours increase later this summer.
  2. Cash flow 4 months of swim lessons at Aquatots for our son and older daughter: $1200. Classes started this week. The cost was $643 to do summer fast-track lessons and was half the amount we originally expected to spend. We cash-flowed this one. Boom!
  3. Save $3000 for HVAC replacement. This will be sitting in savings until next year, but we are also at 100% for this as well. Done!
  4. Save $4000 towards the mister’s car replacement fund. Not yet. We tend to build up and then dump every few months, so we’ll see how this looks at the end of summer.
  5. Save $1050 650 for Christmas. Thanks to the $300 in Amazon Trade-in Credits from selling my grad school textbooks, I have completed Christmas shopping for my kids with the exception of red cowboy boots for my daughter and a book or two for each child. We decided we would stick to 4-5 gifts per child, and that has reduced our budget. The rest of the gifts will be small or just cash, and I am am about $60 from goal. I plan on selling the rest of my textbooks when I am done with school in 2 weeks. Almost done!

 

6. Save $1800 $3000? for outdoor play set.   I can’t get this done without the Mister’s cooperation, and he is still in procrastination mode. 

7. Save $750 towards next year’s 2018 family vacation and $ 750 towards my 2018 40th birthday trip ($125/month). We have $113 from last year’s garage sale earnings that I put towards our vacation fund. We’ll probably do a dump into this fund in the fall. I have a tentative date next June for our 40th birthday girl’s trip to Florida, and I know we’ll probably be getting a flight there. I hope to use my travel miles for it. We are staying in a friend’s parent’s condo for free.

8. Spend 600/mo or less on groceries and $100/mo or less on my fun money.   I spent $239.99 this month so far in groceries and $83 in fun money thanks to the festival.  We don’t have any spendy plans for the rest of the month, just going to parks, the community pool, and $1 ice cream at a local ice cream place.

9. Finally roll over one of my 401Ks. Nope. Hasn’t happened.

10. Give: 5 hours of volunteer time and $50/mo. This month, we don’t have any volunteer activities planned, but we are stretched to the max with medical appointments and swimming lessons. I donated $27 for the child in Gambia we sponsor from Plan and $42/ to St. Jude’s .

Personal: 

  1. Complete my master’s degree! I have only 2 weeks of work left and I plan to do a lot of it this weekend. The last day of my program is July 3rd. Graduation is mid-August.
  2. Date night with the husband once per month.  We have nothing planned for June so far. I think we will be doing an in-home date this month. We already spent our date money with an extended family dinner out earlier this month. Honestly, there is zero time.
  3. Read 1 book per month I finished The Rule of Benedict and Brown Girl Dreaming was available on the digital library, so I started that and am about 80% done.  This is definitely a great read; don’t be put off by its being a children’s book. There is a reason it won a slew of awards. It’s wonderful! Next up will be Sir Julian Fellowes’ Snobs, which also was finally available after a long hold time. This makes 15-going-on-16 read out of 12Goal met! 
  4. Monthly me-time with friends.  I used a Groupon at a local vegetarian restaurant with my friend Jennifer.
  5. Complete one freelance submission. Nothing this week. I will schedule it in for July.
  6. Finish the afghan languishing in the closet. I have not touched this since my last break.
  7. Learn how to set up my sewing machine and complete one simple project. OK, didn’t happen yet.
  8. Conquer iced cookies and icing a cake. No cakes planned until the summer.
  9. Drink 64 ounces water daily.   I probably hit it every day this week.
  10. Survive my practicum without eating fast food. We are calling this a 50% success.

Family/Home:

  1. Visit family in Cleveland. We have plans for July.
  2. Weekly 1:1 time with each child. Lots of 1: 1 time on my days off this week.
  3. Sell my son’s old clothes. The garage sale hits have tapered off, so I am starting to post somethings on Ebay.
  4. Complete kitchen counter clear-off to prepare for a fish tank. Done!
  5. Clear out our study corner hot spot. I hit this hard and totally redid my office using the organization suggested in Organizing Solutions For People with ADHD. The corner is cleared out and the bookshelf is more usable, especially since I sold most of my nursing texts to Amazon. I went through and tossed, shredded, or filed most papers, used colored files for easy visual recognition, pared those files down to only about 10, and cleared out my desk. Done!
  6. Get the toddler potty trained! The Toddler, or should I say the soon-to-be-Preschooler, has officially crossed over and is completely in underwear during the day. Even her night-time diapers have been dry 90% of the time. I have put off our monthly Subscribe and Save order of Huggies Pull-ups. This is saving us $20-30/month. Success!
  7. Hang pictures in front hallway. Nope. They are now neatly stacked and ready to go though. I hope to have this done by end of summer.
  8. Plant front yard tree. We learned that if we let the old roots decompose for another year, it will be easier to plant the new tree in the same spot next year and require a smaller hole. Bonus: it will save us money this year. We filled in the area and planted a little grass instead. Deferred! New goal: weeding and mulching flower bedsimproving the plantings in the beds, replacing all outdoor lights (several are broken), and fixing and painting the mailbox. I have ordered some bulbs to be shipped in the fall to replace the irises and lilies that died when our tree fell on them last year. We still need to paint the mailbox. My husband will be playing in Underwater Hockey Nationals (click the link to see a video) this weekend and we aren’t doing any house-related things until after then.
  9. Paint half bath. Not yet. This also makes the Procrastination List until after Nationals.
  10. Visit 6 different parks.  We tried another new park this week when we went to a street fair in Yellow Springs, Ohio.   We have plans to visit Winton Woods and Highfield Discovery Garden in July when some friends are camped there. My sister and I plan to take the kids to Shawnee Lookout and Smale Park this summer too. Four of six completed. 

Business:

  1. Complete Etsy Essentials and Brilliant Pins courses. Nope
  2. Start posting regularly on my Best Geeky Baby Names site. Let’s be real, until my degree is done, this is on the backburner.
  3. Purchase the virtual real estate for the other four sites I want to create. Not yet. Waiting for a sale.
  4. Incorporate as an LLC. I am putting this off until after my master’s is complete.
  5. Explore affiliates for my sites. I signed up for Share a Sale but need to look at which ones to work with. I dug out my passwords last week, so when I have time I can check it.
  6. Double my daily traffic for Frugal Stepping Stones. I  hit it several times this week.
  7. Start a monthly newsletter. Not yet. Also on the agenda for the next two weeks.
  8. Expand my Emergency Menu Plans by one new plan each month this year.  I did brainstorm part of my next post but let’s be honest, I need to pull out two weeks of homework before I can get to it.
  9. Do one guest post. Not yet, but I have a few ideas where to reach out. This will happen after my master’s is complete.
  10. Interview one person for the blog. I have someone who is interested in being interviewed. It will be later this year.

  4. Save $4000 towards the mister’s car replacement fund. Not yet. We tend to build up and then dump every few months, so we’ll see how this looks at the end of summer.
  5. Save $1050 for Christmas. $589 in my Christmas savings so far once my $300 Amazon Trade-In credits come through. I shipped all 13 books and have started getting the emails saying my gift cards have been added. I am hoping to come under budget for Christmas when I institute the Rule of Four this year (1 want, 1 need, 1 things to wear, and 1 to read). I also have sold $25 worth of items on a Facebook sale page.

9. Finally roll over one of my 401Ks. Nope. Hasn’t happened.

10. Give: 5 hours of volunteer time and $50/mo. This month, we don’t have any volunteer activities planned, but we are stretched to the max with medical appointments and swimming lessons. I donated $27 for the child in Gambia we sponsor from Plan and $42/ to St. Jude’s .

Personal: 

  1. Complete my master’s degree! After completing this week’s work, I have only 2 weeks of work left. I have this week off, and then two weeks in a row to finish it out. The last day of my program is July 3rd. Graduation is mid-August.
  2. Date night with the husband once per month.  We have nothing planned for June so far, and I am trying to figure out how to squeeze one in.
  3. Read 1 book per month I am about 90% done with The Rule of Benedict. I just finished Carrie Fisher’s  Wishful Drinking and The Princess Diarist  and found them entertaining. This makes 14-going-on-15 read out of 12. Goal met! 
  4. Monthly me-time with friends.  I used a Groupon at a local vegetarian restaurant yesterday with my friend Jennifer.
  5. Complete one freelance submission. Nothing this week. I will schedule it in for July.
  6. Finish the afghan languishing in the closet. I have not touched this since my last break.
  7. Learn how to set up my sewing machine and complete one simple project. OK, didn’t happen yet.
  8. Conquer iced cookies and icing a cake. No cakes planned until the summer.
  9. Drink 64 ounces water daily.   I probably hit it every day this week.
  10. Survive my practicum without eating fast food. We are calling this a 50% success.

Family/Home:

  1. Visit family in Cleveland. We have plans for July.
  2. Weekly 1:1 time with each child. Lots of 1: 1 time on my days off this week.
  3. Sell my son’s old clothes. I posted 7 things on our neighborhood garage sale while we were quarantined in the house. I sold a too-small pack of swim diapers, a too-small infant’s life vest, have several people interested in our old cloth folding hamper and my son’s size 8 jeans. I posted his shirt from the recent wedding on Ebay. I have a few more things to post, but I am making headway.

  2. Cash flow 4 months of swim lessons at Aquatots for our son and older daughter: $1200. Classes started this week. The cost was $643 to do summer fast-track lessons and was half the amount we originally expected to spend. We cash-flowed this one. Boom!

I love this method because I don’t have to pay shipping and all I have to do is pack it, drop it off at the UPS Store, and forget it. Once my last 3 weeks of class work are done, I will trade in my last few texts.

8. Spend $500600/mo or less on groceries and $100/mo or less on my fun money.  I signed up with Platejoy.com to help me plan low-carb healthy meals within the macros I am striving to meet. I spent $593.10 in May.

9. Finally roll over one of my 401Ks. This weekend? I organized all of my papers in my study, so I have them at hand.

10. Give: 5 hours of volunteer time and $50/mo. This month, we don’t have any volunteer activities planned, but we are stretched to the max with medical appointments and swimming lessons. I donated $27 for the child in Gambia we sponsor from Plan and $42/ to St. Jude’s . I donated an extra $20 to a local autism program.

Personal: 

  1. Complete my master’s degree! I have a two week break from homework, though this week I worked on one piece to try and get ahead. The last day of my program is July 3rd. Graduation is mid-August. My cap and gown just came in the mail today.
  2. Date night with the husband once per month.  We don’t have anything planned yet this month, but might try for a Friday night at the end of the month.
  3. Read 1 book per month I finished Hedda Hopper’s The Whole Truth and Nothing But and am about 60% done with The Rule of Benedict. Not only did I finish that, but I finished Kathy Griffin’s  Celebrity Run-Ins: My A-Z Index (yeah, I read that before the recent public kerfuffle, so I will just leave it at that) and Carrie Fisher’s Shockaholic . Her other two books, Wishful Drinking and The Princess Diarist  just came available in my digital library holds today, and I have 30 days to finish them, so I will be plunging into those next. I really found Shockaholic to be funny, and she is a pretty engaging writer, with a lot of self-deprecating humor. It only took me a day to read the book, so I think I will whip through these quickly and be back to The Rule of Benedict.This makes 12-going-on-13 read out of 12. Goal met! Yes, I will continue to indulge my love of reading, after four years of my reading time taken up by dull textbooks and dull papers. 
  4. Monthly me-time with friends.  I have plans to use a Groupon at a local vegetarian restaurant with my friend Jennifer next week. My mom will be watching the kids.
  5. Complete one freelance submission. Nothing this week. I will schedule it in for July.
  6. Finish the afghan languishing in the closet. I have not touched this since my last break. I had plans to work on it, but I have spent every day of summer vacation underneath a sick child, tidying the house, or doing laundry. The Puke Plague hit us hard!

  9. Drink 64 ounces water daily.   I probably hit it every day this week. It’s easy to do when you are stuck in the house.

I have had a lot of reading time with each girl, played catch in the yard with the kids, and played a game of Uno with the boy.

  10. Give: 5 hours of volunteer time and $50/mo. This month, we had our last two Girl Scout meetings of the school year. I donated $27 for the child in Gambia we sponsor from Plan and $42/ to St. Jude’s . I donated an additional $20 to a funeral fund for someone in my hometown.

Personal:

  1. Complete my master’s degree! I have a two week break from homework, though next week I may work on one piece to try and get ahead. The last day of my program is July 3rd. Graduation is mid-August. This month, I completed my graduation application, ordered my MSN nursing pin, ordered my cap, hood, and gown, and booked our one-night hotel stay. I went through Expedia and Ebates to book our suite for $90, and expect $4 cash back.
  2. Date night with the husband once per month.  We are planning to try a new local pub started by a Scottish family Saturday night.
  3. Read 1 book per month I am working on Hedda Hopper’s The Whole Truth and Nothing But and am about 60% done. I set it aside this week because my digital library copy of

    Just Ride: A Radically Practical Guide to Riding Your Bike was about to expire, so I zipped through it in a day. I am a biking newbie, so I wanted to read up on safety, basic bike fixes, and whatnot. As soon as that was done, I started on another digital library book that finally was available to me, Kathy Griffin’s  Celebrity Run-Ins: My A-Z Index. I’m already about 40% of the way through that.

    I’ve been on hold for Carrie Fisher’s Shockaholic since December and it is now available too, so yes, as soon as I am done it will be another celebrity memoir. I swear I usually don’t read so many celebrity memoirs, but I can usually get one done in a day or two, so it’s been working while I am in school and have only a day or two every couple weeks to read. It’s also nice to read something funny and fluffy when the news this year has been so heavy and depressing.

    This makes 9-going-on 10 books read out of 12.

  4. Monthly me-time with friends.  I had to cancel my plans with my work buddies last week thanks to crazy volume at work. This month will probably be a bust, but between Mother’s Day, our anniversary, our son’s birthday, and end of school year, May is our busiest month. Fail.
  5. Complete one freelance submission. Nothing this week. I will schedule it in for July.
  6. Finish the afghan languishing in the closet. I have not touched this since my last break, but this week is another school break, so I hope to do a few more rows.
  7. Learn how to set up my sewing machine and complete one simple project. OK, didn’t happen yet. I picked up 3 shifts this week and then had to cancel them when our youngest caught a pukey virus. I will try this weekend.
  8. Conquer iced cookies and icing a cake. No cakes planned until the summer.
  9. Drink 64 ounces water daily.   I probably hit it 6 days this week again.
  10. Survive my practicum without eating fast food. We are calling this a 50% success.

Family/Home:

  1. Visit family in Cleveland. Sometime this summer. Maybe July? The kids are begging to go to Lake Erie again.
  2. Weekly 1:1 time with each child. I have started our summer schedule, which includes a little relaxation time with PBS Kids in the morning (aka my time to exercise and write a blog post or do homework), chores, dyslexia friendly phonics, reading, and spelling work for the older two via Reading Horizons, early reading fun via ABC Mouse and using Montessori-based sandpaper letters for the 3 year old, math via Khan Academy, book reading time,  and computer coding programs for our 9 year old. We play games or do art 1:1 as a reward for finishing their daily tasks, and this is our morning schedule 3-4 days per week unless we have planned a day-long adventure. The boy and I are reading together at night before bed.
  3. Sell my son’s old clothes. These are hiding in the closet. I am putting this off this until the summer
  4. Complete kitchen counter clear-off to prepare for a fish tank. Done!
  5. Clear out our study corner hot spot. Sunday I am planning another big organization day.
  6. Get the toddler potty trained! The Toddler, or should I say the soon-to-be-Preschooler, has officially crossed over and is completely in underwear during the day. Even her night-time diapers have been dry 90% of the time. I have put off our monthly Subscribe and Save order of Huggies Pull-ups. This will save us $20-30/month. Success!
  7. Hang pictures in front hallway. Nope. They are now neatly stacked and ready to go though. I hope to have this done by end of summer.
  8. Plant front yard tree. We learned that if we let the old roots decompose for another year, it will be easier to plant the new tree in the same spot next year and require a smaller hole. Bonus: it will save us money this year. We filled in the area and planted a little grass instead. Deferred! New goal: weeding and mulching flower beds, improving the plantings in the beds, replacing all outdoor lights (several are broken), and fixing and painting the mailbox. I have ordered some bulbs to be shipped in the fall to replace the irises and lilies that died when our tree fell on them last year. We still need to paint the mailbox, but it’s way too rainy this week. 
  9. Paint half bath. Not yet. Next on agenda is fixing a leak in the master bath so we are safe to finally drywall the ceiling. Once that is done we paint.
  10. Visit 6 different parks.  Spring is here! We tried three new parks so far, the last one being the state park where we hiked for Girl Scouts.  We have plans to visit Winton Woods and Highfield Discovery Garden in July when some friends are camped there. My sister and I plan to take the kids to Shawnee Lookout and Smale Park this summer too. Three of six completed. 

Business:

  1. Complete Etsy Essentials and Brilliant Pins courses. I scheduled myself to work through Brilliant Pins on Monday.
  2. Start posting regularly on my Best Geeky Baby Names site. Let’s be real, until my degree is done, this is on the backburner. I have posted on the Facebook page a few times though.
  3. Purchase the virtual real estate for the other four sites I want to create. Not yet. Waiting for a sale.
  4. Incorporate as an LLC. I am putting this off until after my master’s is complete.
  5. Explore affiliates for my sites. I signed up for Share a Sale but need to look at which ones to work with.
  6. Double my daily traffic for Frugal Stepping Stones. I  hit it twice this week.
  7. Start a monthly newsletter. Not yet. Also on the agenda for the next two weeks.
  8. Expand my Emergency Menu Plans by one new plan each month this year.  I did brainstorm part of my next post this week when I was stuck under a sick 3 year old.
  9. Do one guest post. Not yet, but I have a few ideas where to reach out. This will happen after my master’sis complete.
  10. Interview one person for the blog. I have someone who is interested in being interviewed. It will be later this year.

40 Goals For 2017: Week 20

 

I’m keeping myself accountable this year by tracking my progress on my 40 Goals for 2017 every week.

It’s been a few weeks since I’ve posted anything at all, I know. When I took two weeks off from grad school, I decided to take two weeks off everything else I could, and it was wonderful.

Week Twenty

Financial:

  1. Max Roth IRAs for the mister and I: $11000. I am thrilled to say the Mister is already nearing 100% with his 2017 Roth and is at $4500. I have $1000.
  2. Cash flow 4 months of swim lessons at Aquatots for our son and older daughter: $1200. The classes won’t start until the last week of May, but we have opted to do four weeks of their summer fast track lessons.  The cost was $643 and half the amount we originally expected to spend. We cash-flowed this one. Boom!
  3. Save $3000 for HVAC replacement. This will be sitting in savings until next year, but we are also at 100% for this as well. Done!
  4. Save $4000 towards the mister’s car replacement fund. Not yet. We tend to build up and then dump every few months, so we’ll see how this looks at the end of summer.
  5. Save $1050 for Christmas. $264 in my Christmas savings so far.
  6. Save $1800 $3000? for outdoor play set.   This is on the Mister’s proscrastination pile. Summer break starts in about 4 days. Still waiting!
  7. Save $750 towards next year’s 2018 family vacation and $ 750 towards my 2018 40th birthday trip ($125/month). We have $113 from last year’s garage sale earnings that I put towards our vacation fund. We’ll probably do a dump into this fund in the fall.
  8. Spend $500600/mo or less on groceries and $100/mo or less on my fun money.  I signed up with Platejoy.com to help me plan low-carb healthy meals within the macros I am striving to meet. I have spent $337 so far in May.
  9. Finally roll over one of my 401Ks. Not this week!
  10. Give: 5 hours of volunteer time and $50/mo. This month, we will have our last two Girl Scout meetings of the school year and I am trying to set a date for my next twice-exceptional parents meeting for early June. I donated $27 for the child in Gambia we sponsor from Plan and $42/ to St. Jude’s . I donated an additional $20 to a funeral fund for someone in my hometown.

Personal:

  1. Complete my master’s degree! I finished this week’s homework already so I can enjoy my cousin’s wedding tomorrow, and I now have 3 weeks of homework to go! The last day of my program is July 3rd. Graduation is mid-August. I just bought my pin for my master’s pinning ceremony (pinning is a nursing thing), and it was $37. I sent in my graduation application and ordered my master’s gown, hood, and cap. Those pieces cost me nothing, not even shipping! I will probably be booking a hotel room to stay overnight, because it is several hours away and my pinning ceremony is early in the morning. Our kids are less likely to be disruptive if they haven’t spent hours in the car before a long and boring ceremony.
  2. Date night with the husband once per month.  We are planning to try a new local pub starting by a Scottish family, that is supposed to have great authentic cuisine.
  3. Read 1 book per month I am working on Hedda Hopper’s The Whole Truth and Nothing But and am about 60% done. It’s only OK, and I am glad I did not buy it. This makes 8-going-on 9 books read out of 12.

The mister replaced all outdoor lights and scrubbed off the algae growing on the mailbox and the north-facing side of our house. I spent hours on Mother’s Day planting an herb pot and planting in the front of our house. I love it!
  9. Paint half bath. Not yet. Next on agenda is fixing a leak in the master bath so we are safe to finally drywall the ceiling. Once that is done we paint!
  10. Visit 6 different parks.  Spring is here! We tried three new parks so far, the last one being the state park where we hiked for Girl Scouts. Three of six completed.

I started Hedda Hopper’s The Whole Truth and Nothing But and am about 40% done. I am finding it a bit discombobulated and all over the place, so I’m not sure if I will finish. I try to pick a fluffy book on weeks I have homework. This makes 8-going-on 9 books read out of 12.
  4. Monthly me-time with friends.  This coming week, I am going out to dinner with my two work buddies.
  5. Complete one freelance submission. Nothing this week. I will schedule it in for July.
  6. Finish the afghan languishing in the closet. I have added on about 4 more inches during my break.
  7. Learn how to set up my sewing machine and complete one simple project. OK, didn’t happen yet. I have a million Girl Scout patches to sew on. The last meeting is Tuesday and I am 100% certain they will not be on by then,since I have 3 pieces of heavy schoolwork to complete.
  8. Conquer iced cookies and icing a cake. No cakes planned until the summer.
  9. Drink 64 ounces water daily.  Maybe 2 days this week? I have been running around too much on days I don’t work. This end of school month is super busy.

We have $113 from last year’s garage sale earnings that I put towards our vacation fund. I am not putting anything towards this until the play set is bought. The good news is that my friends and I will probably be staying rent-free at one of the ladies’ parents Florida condo for our big trip. Flight, car rental, and spending money will likely be all I need. I hope to use my credit card points to help with my flight.

I signed up with Platejoy.com to help me plan low-carb healthy meals within the macros I am striving to meet. I’m on my 3rd week of this and we are very happy with the meal options. I donated $27 for the child in Gambia we sponsor from Plan and $42/ to St. Jude’s  in April and May.

40 Goals For 2017: Week Sixteen

I’m keeping myself accountable this year by tracking my progress on my 40 Goals for 2017 every week.

Week Sixteen

Financial:

  1. Max Roth IRAs for the mister and I: $11000. I am thrilled to say the Mister is already nearing 100% with his 2017 Roth and is at $4500. I have $1000.
  2. Cash flow 4 months of swim lessons at Aquatots for our son and older daughter: $1200. The classes won’t start until the last week of May, but we have opted to do their summer fast track lessons.  The cost was $643 and half the amount we originally expected to spend. We cash-flowed this one. Boom!
  3. Save $3000 for HVAC replacement. This will be sitting in savings until next year, but we are also at 100% for this as well. Done!
  4. Save $4000 towards the mister’s car replacement fund. Not yet. We tend to build up and then dump every few months, so we’ll see how this looks at the end of summer.
  5. Save $1050 for Christmas. $264 in my Christmas savings so far.
  6. Save $1800 $3000? for outdoor play set.   We are thinking of talking with a landscaper to prep and get this done. We mulched, but we don’t want to cause drainage issues when we level out the curvy spots.
  7. Save $750 towards next year’s 2018 family vacation and $ 750 towards my 2018 40th birthday trip ($125/month). We have $113 from last year’s garage sale earnings that I put towards our vacation fund. I am not putting anything towards this until the play set is bought. The good news is that my friends and I will probably be staying rent-free at one of the ladies’ parents Florida condo for our big trip. Flight, car rental, and spending money will likely be all I need. I hope to use my credit card points to help with my flight.
  8. Spend $500/mo or less on groceries and $100/mo or less on entertainment.  What’s new? I signed up with Platejoy.com to help me plan low-carb healthy meals within the macros I am striving to meet. This is my first week, so tuned tuned about how that is working for me. I hope to lose weight. I lost 20 pounds and kept it off, but PCOS makes it hard to do more. I know our grocery budget is going to increase in the short term, so I’m not pushing it too much. This will be my first week combining my planned meals, Kroger trip, and Green Bean Delivery.
  9. Finally roll over one of my 401Ks. Not this week!
  10. Give: 5 hours of volunteer time and $50/mo. We had two Girl Scout meetings this month so far. We will also be doing an Earth Day service project cleaning up a park tomorrow. I will be holding a meeting for local parents of twice exceptional children next week as well, which will put me  well over 5 hours. I donated $27 for the child in Gambia we sponsor from Plan. I also started donating $42/month to St. Jude’s every month for the next 12 month.  I almost didn’t get a clinical placement for my teaching practicum, and truly thought I would have to withdraw from school and try again in 10 weeks. I found one at the 11th hour and this was my pledge. Although I am a lapsed Catholic, I am way too superstitious to blow this off. Goal hit 4 of 12 months. 

Personal:

  1. Complete my master’s degree! As of tomorrow,I will have 9 weeks of homework to go! The last day of my program is July 3rd. Graduation is mid-August!
  2. Date night with the husband once per month.  We plan on using our Groupon for a local dinner/movie place at the end of the month. Our only cost will be the sitter.
  3. Read 1 book per month I am  still  working on Organizing Solutions for People With ADHD.  Homework has started again. This makes 6-going-on-7 books read out of 12.
  4. Monthly me-time with friends.  At the end of this month I am traveling an hour to another city to hang out with my bestie for our birthdays.
  5. Complete one freelance submission. Nothing this week. I will schedule it in for July.
  6. Finish the afghan languishing in the closet. Sunday is the next day I have open to sit and crochet.
  7. Learn how to set up my sewing machine and complete one simple project. OK, didn’t happen yet.
  8. Conquer iced cookies and icing a cake. No cakes planned until the summer.
  9. Drink 64 ounces water daily.  I have hit it 5 out of 7 days this week. I
  10. Survive my practicum without eating fast food. We are calling this a 50% success.

Family/Home:

  1. Visit family in Cleveland. Sometime this summer. No date set yet.
  2. Weekly 1:1 time with each child. The Little and I always have lots of quality time when the bigs are in school. Our 6 year old and I did some reading and a trip to Home Depot to pick out flowers, and my son and I played a game together.
  3. Sell my son’s old clothes. These are hiding in the closet. I am putting this off this until the summer
  4. Complete kitchen counter clear-off to prepare for a fish tank. Done!
  5. Clear out our study corner hot spot. The clearing off I did is still intact and looking good.
  6. Get the toddler potty trained! The Toddler, or should I say the soon-to-be-Preschooler, has officially crossed over and is completely in underwear during the day. Even her night-time diapers have been dry 90% of the time. I have put off our monthly Subscribe and Save order of Huggies Pull-ups. This will save us $20-30/month. Success!
  7. Hang pictures in front hallway. Nope. They are now neatly stacked and ready to go though. This is a project I want to work on this week but I don’t know if it will make the cut.
  8. Plant front yard tree. We learned this week that if we let the old roots decompose for another year, it will be easier to plant the new tree in the same spot next year and require a smaller hole. Bonus: it will save us money this year. We will be filling in the area and planting a little grass instead. Deferred! New goal: weeding and mulching flower beds, improving the plantings in the beds, replacing all outdoor lights (several are broken), and fixing and painting the mailbox. Weeding and mulching has been done, and a few flowers bought. The mister replaced all outdoor lights this weekend. 
  9. Paint half bath. Not yet. The taxes are done as of this weekend. Next on agenda is fixing a leak in the master bath so we are safe to finally drywall the ceiling. Once that is done we paint!
  10. Visit 6 different parks.  Spring is here! We tried two new parks so far. Two of six completed. 

Business:

  1. Complete Etsy Essentials and Brilliant Pins courses. Not yet. Maybe next Monday?
  2. Start posting regularly on my Best Geeky Baby Names site. Let’s be real, until my degree is done, this is on the backburner. I have posted on the Facebook page a few times though.
  3. Purchase the virtual real estate for the other four sites I want to create. Not yet. Waiting for a sale.
  4. Incorporate as an LLC. I am putting this off until after my master’s is complete.
  5. Explore affiliates for my sites. I signed up for Share a Sale but need to look at which ones to work with.
  6. Double my daily traffic for Frugal Stepping Stones. I haven’t hit it once this week, but I also haven’t been very active on other blogs that bring traffic. I gave myself permission to relax during my break.
  7. Start a monthly newsletter. Not yet. Also on the agenda for the next two weeks.

Week Fourteen

Financial:

  1. Max Roth IRAs for the mister and I: $11000. My 2016 Roth funds have officially transferred. Now that we have everything settled and calculated, I am thrilled to say the Mister is already nearing 100% with his 2017 Roth and is at $4500. I have $750. Without having to pay grad school tuition, this will fill up faster this year! We won’t transfer anything over until the end of the year, when we have a good idea about what our income was and if we still qualified for a Roth. I am 99.5% certain we will, but I will be working a little more this year and hoping to pick up a teaching position as a second job once my degree confers. I can’t reliably predict my income.
  2. We have to level out part of the yard with extra mulch to get the play set to settle evenly, but we will be ordering it within the next week or two. News: it may cost more than $1800. The Mister doesn’t want to get one that will quickly degrade in a couple of seasons.

I may have mentioned it before, but after changing to grass-fed meats and dairy and getting more Omega-3s in my diet, my lipids were normal for the first time in 20 years, and that includes the years I was a vegan and vegetarian. We spent about $40 on a family dinner out (with coupon) last week and $5 on a movie rental, and this week the kids enjoyed their Staycation with $40 and trips to Wendy’s and Chick Fil-A.

I finished Holly Madison’s The Vegas Diaries (it was OK) and am now working on Organizing Solutions for People With ADHD.  I will be honest, what I have read so far will be VERY helpful for our family. It’s kind of funny, because my engineer husband already figured out some of the exact solutions recommended for us, including the “never sort socks again by buying only one exact-matching brand of socks in both black and white, and dumping the same color socks into two halves of the same sock drawer”. This makes 6-going-on-7 books read out of 12.
  4. Monthly me-time with friends.  At the end of this month I am traveling an hour to another city to hang out with my bestie for our birthdays.
  5. Complete one freelance submission. Nothing this week. I will schedule it in for July. I did just receive the copy of the nursing textbook I helped write, however. *cue excited dancing* 
  6. Finish the afghan languishing in the closet. I crocheted about 6 more inches of it yesterday, when it was raining and stormy, and we had an “indoor”day.
  7. Learn how to set up my sewing machine and complete one simple project. OK, didn’t happen yet. I was in a nice groove with my afghan. I am moving this to Friday.
  8. Conquer iced cookies and icing a cake. We are making rice krispie treats with Lucky Charms again and molding them into Easter Eggs for our contribution to Easter Lunch this week.
  9. Drink 64 ounces water daily.  I have hit it 7 out of 7 days this week. I have been keeping this glass water bottle  on my desk. It holds 22 ounces, so I am drinking my normal 4 cups of tea a day and 2 of these bottles to hit my quota.
  10. Survive my practicum without eating fast food. We are calling this a 50% success.

Family/Home:

Not only that, but I started and finished the book Dyslexia Advocate in 24 hours last Wednesday/Thursday to prepare before a school meeting. If you have a child with dyslexia, I highly recommend it. I am already 60% of the way through a more fluffy book, Holly Madison’s The Vegas Diaries. I got it through the Ohio Digital Library. It’s OK- let’s just say I’m glad I didn’t pay for it, because if you read the first book, it doesn’t really do more than expand a little on what was already covered in the 2nd half of that book. This makes 5-going-on-6 books read out of 12.
  4. Monthly me-time with friends.  At the end of this month I am traveling an hour to another city to hang out with my bestie for our birthdays.

On the bright side, I got all of the paperwork completed, including the bits signed by the doctor, to register our youngest for preschool in the fall!
